My students need new copies of some well-loved books such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Captain Underpants, Dork Diaries, Minecraft Handbooks and World Record books that just can't stay on the shelf!
Children come to the library knowing that it is a safe, positive place for them to be. They know that the library fosters curiosity and life-long learning, and is a place where they can come to seek out personal interest and also reading for pleasure.
In the library, students are encouraged to read to feed their interests and to supplement what they are learning in the classroom.
We are a small neighborhood school of pre-k through sixth grade, with about three hundred and fifty students. We are a Title One school with over a forty percent transient rate. Though we are small, we are a school family and do our best to take care of the entire student. Teachers at our school teach using Common Core State Standards, but also use Social-Emotional Learning to ensure each child is a well-rounded student. We also have a back-to-basics academic focus under Anchorage Basic Curriculum (ABC).
My Project
You know how a baby blanket can become threadbare with love? I've got books like that in my collection that I just can't bring myself to get rid of until I can replace them with a new copy!
While none of the books in this collection would be considered great literature, they all fill that spot in a child's reading vocabulary; they're all comfort reading that is great to indulge in.
