This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My Head Start students come from the inner-city and do not have as many advantages as students from other areas. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to make sure they have what they need to learn and succeed in school and in the world. I teach at a Title I school in Nebraska, which means that 93% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students are amazing, and I am proud to be their teacher!
They come to school eager to learn and are curious about the world around them. My school is a safe place for them, a place for them to be nurtured, loved, and prepared for the future.
My Project
Due to the influx of younger children into our program, I am in desperate need of appropriate board books!
The students who are entering our classrooms have just turned 3 and have not had much experience with books and taking care of them.
These board books will be sturdy enough for small hands, while providing interesting topics for our youngest readers on up to our 5 year olds. I have chosen a wide variety of topics that will be of interest- transportation, alphabet, family, food, and animals. Books are such an important part of our preschool curriculum- these will really make a difference!
