As many adults remember back from their days in school or their weekend family trips to the church basement, children have also discovered the fun world of BINGO! Some clever people have also found a way to make BINGO educational at the same time! BINGO has now taken a new spin through fun math versions such as addition, subtraction, fractions, and multiplication! I am a third grade teacher in an inner city school on the south side of Chicago. Math, for many of my students, is frustrating as they just don't understand it. Through game playing, I have found ways to make even the greatest "math haters" love math! They think that they are simply playing a fun game of bingo....little do they know they are learning and improving their math skills at the same time! In addition to the games, my classroom is in desperate need of pencil sharpeners! I have learned that the cheaper electric sharpeners do not withstand the use of 28 third graders. I would love to have the "industrial strength" classroom sharpeners so my students always have a sharp pencil ready for math class! The games and pencil sharpeners would be a great and practical addition to my classroom. They could help enable my students to be more successful in math and the games would also serve as a fun, motivational tool! Please consider this proposal as it will truly strengthen my math curriculum.
