Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our academy is a bilingual Spanish and English school located in North Tulsa. The goal of our school is that students will achieve fluency in communication and literacy in both languages.
I teach 3rd grade, my students are tiny but mighty they have so much capability that I am always blown away by their way of thinking. They love conducting bilingual research and presenting it to the class to show everyone what they have learned. I feel lucky to have the honor to teach and experience their growth on a daily basis.
My Project
Looking at the library books that we have in our classroom library I noticed that the characters in the majority of the books do not represent the students in our classroom.
Children's books are like mirrors, they reflect the child's life and allow them to get a look into someone else's life by simply reading.
In our school, all students have a special superpower which is being bilingual in English and Spanish. In order to support both languages, we must have books in both languages for them to choose from.
My students love reading and they have been asking for more books because they have read them all. Help our classroom light up with color with brand new diverse and bilingual books!
