Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
According to the National Education Art Association, art helps students build self-esteem through creative problem solving. Art also helps student develop literacy skills and have a broad worldview. Help me create an environment where students are excited to be introduced to the visual arts.
My students come from many diverse backgrounds, with more than 90 percent speaking English as a second language and over 90 percent receiving free or reduced lunch.
These children are happy, inquisitive, and eager to learn and excited to be at school. Sadly, these students have had little to no access to art.
My Project
For the first time ever, our school will have an art teacher and an art classroom. We need help getting this up and running! The supplies we are requesting include basic art materials like crayons, watercolors, and colored pencils.
We are also requesting some logistical items such as drying racks and aprons to help keep their uniforms clean.
Another important part of teaching arts in an elementary setting is integrating it with other core subjects. My focus will be integrating the visual arts with language arts. In order to do this, we also need a class library full of art books! I am requesting books about famous artists and art techniques so the students can immerse themselves in an art-enriched environment.
Your donations will introduce art to these students for the first time.
These materials will get students excited about learning. These materials will introduce another way of learning. These materials will provide an opportunity for the students to use their creativity and also give them a break from the rigors of the testing and everyday school routines.
