Help me give my students various opportunities to improve on their fine motor skills and creative thinking through intentional play and hands-on activities.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is located in Northeast of DC and one of the Title I schools in the district. A large percentage of our school population is homeless, and our students face different challenges both inside and outside of our classrooms. Despite these challenges, they exude a lot of energy for learning and discovery!
Our Pre-Kindergarten student population grew this year and it led to opening an additional classroom to accommodate more of our awesome kids in the community.
This opening of a new classroom needs your kindness and help to get things started. We are still in need of essential materials that will tremendously support and enrich our students’ academic experience.
My Project
Most of the materials we are in need of are beneficial in conducting our hands-on and explorative activities towards improving their fine motor skills. Also, these materials will be placed in our different centers where the students are able to demonstrate their understanding and mastery of alphabets, numbers and social skills through structured play.
The students will be using these materials during small group activities and centers time.
These materials are effective in getting them more engaged in the lesson while still having fun in an educational way. The students love playing with play dough and we intend to enrich this experience by inserting teaching moments regarding letters (e.g. asking them to create letters/numbers using play dough). Through this kind of learning opportunity, they don't only practice their fine motor skills, but also touching the literacy-related objectives.
