This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Some of my students have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations. This could be the year that magic happens and they fall in love with books. Some of my students have already fallen in love with books and they want more and different types of books to read.
In our classroom, there are more boys than girls, and boys like more non-fiction texts.
Girls love to read fictional stories and fairy tales. The students are beginning to emerge from the stage of patterned, predictable books, to a stage where they are beginning to enjoy humor and explore characters.
Our goal at our school and in our classrooms, is to create that environment filled with literacy that is at our students' fingertips.
My Project
Having these resources in our classroom will enable each child to have a personal bag of books that they choose from the library. It will make it possible for students to read and choose new books each week. Time for Kids subscription will enable each student to have their own personal folder and magazine each day to explore nonfiction and they keep their magazines to take home and read during the summer. Some students need to hear stories while they read along, which is why the listening center is so important to our classroom. All of these resources will reach different types of students and create an environment more conducive to learning.
Reading is the key to most everything else in a persons life.
Our job in early childhood is to create a solid foundation in students' lives in literacy and create a love for reading that will last throughout a child's life. The donations for this project will create such a positive impact for the whole community by helping educate our future leaders. It all starts in a classroom with quality resources such as the ones I am requesting.
