I have the honor and privilege of working with a wonderful group of students who are between the ages of 18 and 21. My students are hilarious, hardworking, and sweet. My students, who happen to have profound cognitive and physical disabilities, attend a separate school due to the severity of their needs. My students are within two to three years of graduating and are beginning the process of transitioning to the workforce!
Our students focus on learning from a functional curriculum.
Most of our students come from low-income families. Despite the challenges our students face, they are very energetic, enthusiastic, and kind-spirited kids.
My Project
My students need medals, trophies and expanding file folders for me to organize receipts. In April, our school has a big Pinewood Derby Event. The students make their own Pinewood Derby cars by assembling them, painting them and decorating them with stickers. We actually received most of these items from DonorsChoose. Our students love to race their cars on this very special day. Students' friends and family even come to the school to watch them race.
I would like all participants in our spring event to be able to receive a medal and students who come in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place will receive a trophy.
It is such a good thing to teach our students good sportsmanship.
The expanding file folders will allow me to organize coloring sheets and activities by month. I will also be able to organize receipts according to month.
Thank you so much for your consideration with this project.
