My students need aprons to keep clean through their art lessons, but can also use a backup in case messes happen.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My art students are in Kindergarten through Grade 5, and the school is of the highest need. One hundred percent of the student population receives free breakfast and lunch. Some are learning English, and some are transient. Though the school is high in need, it is also highly caring. Here, teachers, support staff, and administration work hard to create a positive learning environment. Parent participation is growing, and student work, including in art, is proudly shown in the halls and in community events nights such as our recent Art and Literacy Night. District wide, our students also participate in wide events such as Hartford Performs and the Hartford Youth Art Renaissance, where three students' art work is selected to for display at the Wadsworth Atheneum. The visual arts are a crucial part of our students' learning, and connect to other disciplines.
Even though we remember to roll us our sleeves, messes happen.
Some of my students do not have laundry facilities at home, and it is not easy to stretch a wardrobe when paint stays on clothes. To prevent messes and help students keep their clothes clean, I am asking for easy to use aprons.
My Project
To leave art as tidy as when they arrived, these aprons will prevent messes and save clean up time. Less clean up time will mean more art making time! With this extra time we can also better examine our artwork and have more gallery walks.
In case messes still happen, the rags, stain sticks, and bone folder will be a helpful backup.
The pre-treating stain sticks will at least help messes be less likely to stain, even if it'll be a couple days before the clothes go into the washing machine. No one wants to wear stained uniforms, so this backup will be another way to stay clean, long after the art lesson is over.
