This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My art students are composed of 9-12th grade students who have never been exposed to art or who have had a limited exposure to art. They also have never been afforded the opportunity to express their emotions through art or the aesthetics of the end products that they produce.
The 115 students enrolled with me are members of an under-represented, impoverished, minority population, and ninety percent of these scholars qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Despite the daily challenges faced by my students, they are enthusiastic and fully engaged in the art projects that we have been able to complete using the very limited school funds. However, we need your helot continue our cultural and artistic endeavors. It in my goal to introduce my students to natural media, and mixed media to include tempera, water color, acrylics, oils, pastels, charcoal and pen and ink.
My Project
Despite financial and societal challenges, my students are enthusiastic and engaged when provided with opportunities to express their emotions and creativity through art.
Due to a very limited quantity of funds from my school, the art activities and opportunities have been funded through parent donations or through out of pocket purchases by the teacher.
The requested materials will provide students, who would not otherwise have the opportunity, a chance to explore and develop projects using a variety of artistic media and techniques. These student created masterpieces will be used for community and school district art shows and exhibitions that bring joy to our school community
