"We are here to learn!" That is our classroom motto because it covers every aspect of school success. We are a community where everyone teaches and everyone learns so that everyone wins.
My students are individuals who learn to believe in themselves through critical thinking and problem-solving.
They experience success and refine their ideas in a safe, supportive environment. Our charter school's mission is student-centered learning, and we pride ourselves on meeting students where they are. I teach the whole child with hands-on learning through real-life, self-directed, and relevant experiences. My students are members of our school's unique culture. They take pride in positively representing themselves, their families, their teachers, and our school community. They are caring and compassionate people who work hard for individual success, but also focus on personal integrity and responsibility. The tradition of developing better ways to teach children is at the heart of our school. We believe that children learn best in a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment. Our students thrive in a student-led, teacher-guided educational experience.
My Project
An imperative aspect of developing a love of books and an appreciation for reading is having exposure to a rich variety of texts. Do you remember a beloved book from elementary school? Maybe your teacher read it to you, and that was simply the best part of every day.
I remember the anticipation I felt when I couldn't wait to find out what happened in the lives of the characters that felt real to me.
This project will put Newbery and Caldecott Award-winning books in the hands of 4th graders. Since 1922, one Newbery Medal has been awarded annually to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. Since 1938, one Caldecott Medal has been awarded annually to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
I have seen the benefits of having award-winning books as a prominent part of reading in my classroom. When I give students time to enjoy books, the choices should be of the highest quality. When I teach with books, my choices should also be excellent examples of what I am teaching. I know these books will be a great addition to our classroom library.
