Mrs. Sims from Sacramento CA is requesting a class trip through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need tickets to visit the California Academy of Sciences, located in San Francisco, California.

I teach at a Title 1 School with most students qualifying for the free breakfast and lunch program. Our classrooms are quite a diverse group of students (Afghanis, African Americans, Hmong, Jamaicans, Mexicans, Pacific Islanders, Salvadorans, Vietnamese, and more) and their challenges are as diverse as the cultures from which they come. So each morning, my 5th graders hear my positive greeting, "Good morning, my future leaders," as I look at each one of them. My focused attention on them always produces a big smile.
Children are inquisitive by nature and our students are no exception!
Despite the challenges they face at home, they are curious and excited about their learning. They relish in collaboration with their peers whether they are performing a science experiment, discussing a solution to a math problem, or sharing an idea with a partner.
Our students are so excited about their field trip to the California Academy of Sciences because they have been studying the Earth’s Systems, Space Systems, and Engineering Design, which fulfills part of our Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Earlier, I mentioned the challenges students face at home. Many of our families do not have the financial means to pay for their children's field trips.
Your contribution will open horizons to awaken our students' young scientific minds.
At the Academy, they will be captivated by the marine life at the Steinhart Aquarium, mesmerized by the "Motions of the Solar System" at the Morrison Planetarium, will have traveled the world in Osher Rainforest, and will have experienced "rolling hills and fields" on the Living Roof on top of the Academy. These experiences will impact their lives in ways we cannot imagine.
So, we thank you for the opportunity to awaken the minds of our future scientists!
