Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in my classes come from diverse backgrounds and bring multiple abilities to the learning community. This year we are offering a more rigorous course to our Junior class to help prepare them for college level mathematics. Rather than taking Algebra 2, most of our population is taking Algebra 2/Precalculus. The students are rising to the challenge with enthusiasm and a curiosity for learning. By giving most of our students this opportunity, we have created heterogeneous classes full of different knowledge and strengths. The students are always working collaboratively and facilitating their own discussions to resolve mathematical disagreements.
Our students are in the hub of the tech industry, but are lacking the training of skills to be successful in the changing community.
We want students to be able to use technology that will guide their learning and expand their skill set. We often use graphing programs on Chrome-books, videos, and scientific calculators. In the classroom I would like to be able to provide any materials students need so they all have an equal opportunity to learn and be successful.
My Project
Towards the end of the year the flow of basic materials has come to a halt. We have one grading period left for students to finish off the school year, but we have found that getting the materials needed is harder than ever. By this time students have run out of the materials bought at the beginning of the school year and are not able to replenish their resources.
Spring is among us, and with it come germs.
We want to be healthy and safe and need materials such as tissues and sanitizer. These are important to ensure that we aren't spreading our germs, so that fewer students are affected. We want our students to be in class as much as possible rather than suffering from spring time colds.
