Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As I begin my first year of teaching, I tried to think of the most important aspects of a classroom. A warm welcoming environment, the materials the students will need to be successful, and an inspired teacher, just to name a few. My students come from all different backgrounds and walks of life, and that is what I love the most about them.
I will have over 120 students to love, nurture, and most importantly, teach this year!
There are students I have who can’t afford to bring their own binders or pencils, students who speak English as a second language, and students who love math as much as I do. Close to 60% of my students will be given free or reduced lunch. I want all of my students to have the same opportunities to succeed in my class, and your donations will help me ensure that!
My Project
Four out of the five days a week, students in my class will be given close to 50 minutes to read during SSR (Sustained Silent Reading). It can be a trouble getting 7th and 8th graders interested in reading.
Having books in my class that students will be interested in will not only improve their reading skills, but will also help them fall in love with reading.
It is a goal of my school to incorporate English in every subject which one of many reasons having this eclectic collection in my class is so important to me. My students having access to these books will help them both now and in the future.
