Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My second graders are hardworking, happy kids who love to play, laugh, and enjoy their learning. Daily, they strive to improve their reading skills regardless of their level so that they are continuously growing.
But there is so much more to reading than simply cracking open a book and reading the words.
Readers have to understand what they are reading to truly get the full experience a book provides, and for many, this is the hard part. That is where learning games come in!
My Project
Reading is hard work. You have to think about letter sounds, blends, sight words, diphthongs...so much! And while you do all that, you have to try to comprehend what the author is telling you. See, it's hard work!
Throw in an engaging game, however, and reading isn't so bad--it's actually fun!
The games in this set will provide students with an opportunity to practice key reading skills like making and revising predictions, using context clues, distinguishing main ideas and details, sequencing events, and following directions without even opening a book.
With your kindness and generosity, all of my second graders will find success in reading. And...we will be able to play these games while in distance learning during small group instruction. I will roll dice, move pawns, and flip cards; they will answer questions, make decisions, and tell me the next move to make.
