Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic, creative, and willing to learn. I am teaching in a low income public school district where almost all students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Despite many difficulties these students may face, they come to school knowing it is a safe space where they can be themselves.
My students are my motivation for creating learning experiences they will never forget!
My students love hands-on activities and are bold, eager learners. They don't shy away from a difficult task!
My Project
Our school is an AVID elementary school which prepares students to transition to our middle and high schools in the district. AVID holds students accountable to the highest standards and provides academic and social support. AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other post-secondary opportunities.
A huge component of AVID in elementary school is learning to use organizational tools to be successful.
My students each have a binder that they keep their supplies and all work in. They will use the binder tabs and Post-it notes to highlight important pages in their binders and to make notes on documents. The staplers and hole puncher are important because my students are learning to be responsible for their own materials.
My students are excellent note takers. The chart paper and magnetic paper will be used to model note taking and will be used as a tool for group collaboration.
