Our school is very diverse. We have 4 classes, one of which is English Language Learners only. Some receive speech services, some receive special ed services, it is a very transient population with many students living in shelters and temporary housing.
We are an AVID school.
We have 100 kindergarten students every year. We are a Title I school with 83% of our students receiving free or reduced-cost lunch. They come into school excited to learn new things. Our mission statement is Launching Lifelong Learners, so as their teachers, we strive to be sure that the love of learning continues on.
All students on campus learn organizational skill via our AVID Elementary program. Here in Kindergarten, we use pencil boxes to keep our supplies readily available for each student. It helps to teach organizational skills, even at such a young age. With recent budget cuts, this is something that will not be provided in the future.
As a Title 1 School, we do not ask parents for many supplies as they may not be able to afford them.
This project would allow for all students to have the same item. With your help we can continue to provide supplies our children need.
