My students are hardworking, fun and genuinely care about each other. They are very creative and love to work on projects, while also moving around and being active. Their interest and passion in the assignments grow when they have autonomy and are able to express themselves through assignments.
As a 6th grade class in elementary school, it's important to prepare students for the responsibility of junior high while still maintaining the fun atmosphere of elementary.
Introducing different learning strategies will help my students be more successful and open to learning new material.
My Project
In my current classroom, there are not very many options for students in terms of seating or materials they can use. While I teach my students how to multiply and divide fractions, all about ancient civilizations, and how to write a convincing argumentative paper, I would also like to teach my students different ways of learning. To teach my students to take responsibility of their learning by trying new ways of learning and deciding what works best for them will help them not only with specific skills, but strategies that can be used throughout their lives.
As students progress through their educational careers, it is important that they have more autonomy and responsibility for their learning, which includes how they learn.
