Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hardworking, bright, young individuals. They attend school each and every day, ready to learn and meet all high expectations. Some students come before school, during lunch and after school to engage themselves in our technology club. My students love challenges and face difficulties each and every day, with smiles on their faces, no less.
My students come from a Title I school with a high population of English learners.
Most come from a low income household, group homes, homeless and have limited resources and experiences. To many of my students, their only chance of life-enriching activities are at school. They love school and I want to make this place the most enriching place for them!
My Project
Automation and Robotics is a class that will be offered to our students in the upcoming 2018/2019 school year. Students who venture into this class will have the opportunity to discover engineering through motors, gears, sensors and pulleys. They will be faced with modern day STEM problems to design, build and test solutions. Working together as a team, they will apply the design method to accomplish their goal for a solution and then present it to an audience.
Applied critical thinking using Science, Math and Engineering, students will be engaged at solving and producing a prototype as a solution.
The students will use the PLTW VEX Robotics kits to build their prototypes to be tested. Within these kits are all the components, motors, wires, and parts needed for the students to complete all required STEM projects found in the Automation and Robotics curriculum.
With your donation you are helping students to achieve abilities that extend far beyond the classroom. Without STEM projects such as these, students would not be given the opportunity explore robotics. These students are our future engineers which is why your donation will help foster and continue their excitement in robotics.
