I am an exceptional children's teacher in a high functioning autistic classroom. My students range in gifts, abilities, and grade levels K-5. I currently have 11 students on my roaster. My kiddos are the most awesome, supportive, and nurturing individuals you will ever meet. They all work extremely hard on a day to day basis to accomplish their academic goals. Autism is a wide spectrum and not one child with autism is the same.

Social skills is a very difficult task for students with autism. Students with autism have a hard time expressing themselves as individuals. Sometimes it is hard for peers to accept or understand them as well unless everyone is taught how to socially be acceptable. With autism being such a huge spectrum it is hard to know what each and every child goes through daily. I teach a diverse group of student but they all have the following in common: a desire to learn, succeed, and passionate about their accomplishments.
My Project
Autism affects students in different ways. If you've ever met a child with autism, then you've met only one child with autism. Not one of them is the same. They may have similar characteristics but they are completely different children. Lighting within a classroom can many times hinder a child with autism and affect their academics. Through the use of insights fluorescents it will limit the amount of brightness given off by the lights and allow my students to feel more at home and less distracted. Students with autism also have a high demand for sensory input needs. Through the use of kinetic sand, stacking stools, wobble chairs, wobble cushions, and balance ball chairs my students will be able to focus more on their academics becoming success as a student while utilizing the sensory and tactile items purchased.
