Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Despite so many hardships, my students come in each day eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
I teach special education students, grades kindergarten through third.
Our school is in an inner city in Arizona. All students in our school receive free breakfast, snack, and lunch. Our students are very sweet and polite. Many of them come from troubled backgrounds, and many students move frequently.
My Project
Many of my students have Autism. They often struggle to sit still and focus and need a sensory break. Our campus does not have a sensory room, so I would like to build one in the corner of my room.
A feel and find sensory tub will help students calm down and learn their letter names and sounds at the same time.
A sensory ball set will give students something tactile to hold on to and help them relax. Sensory sand and noodles will give students a variety of materials to use to meet their sensory needs. Empty sensory bottles will allow me to put different materials in them and allow students to calm down when they are upset.
