Autism Inclusion Group Needs High-Interest Leveled Books

My students need Leveled Books Classroom Library of high-interest leveled books. All of my students have special needs, many have autism, many are also English Language Learners, and want to read!

My Students

Slowly, slowly, even a snail can scale Mt. Fuji. My readers struggle heroically to learn, but their undaunted courage needs the fuel only a high-interest topic or hilarious story can provide. Please help provide the key that unlocks the door to literature.

My students have read all of the book sets in our library.

They love to talk about books. They are interested in books about animals. They love books that are funny. My students attend a school with wealth in its diversity. We are a high-poverty school. We are mix of ages; Preschool to Eighth Grade, a mix of languages and cultures, a mix of typically developing children and children with disabilities, including many students with autism.

My Project

My students need Leveled Books Classroom Library of high-interest leveled books. All of my students have special needs, many have autism, many are also English Language Learners, and want to read! My students need to have books that they are able to read independently. They are all Third and Fourth Graders, reading at the First Grade level. They are not able to read the books supplied in their general education classroom. They need to have enough books at lower readability levels to allow them to practice and gain reading skills. They are interested in a variety of subjects.

This project is so important to these students to capture their love of reading NOW, because most of them have no books at home.

One of my students was thrilled when he got a book for free and carries it with him everywhere. When I talked with my students about getting some more books, two students suggested that I check a pawn shop or used goods store. This is where their families shop!
