Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our school is in the a town outside of Dallas. I would say that 85% or greater are economically disadvantage. Many of our students receive food backpacks on the weekends from the local food bank. Our parents love their children but their primary focus is survival. So, sometimes that overshadows education.

Reading and writing skills for my students are not always up to par because their background knowledge is limited.

Our students are group of bright 3 graders who have a desire to learn and to grow. When I read to them during reading and writer's workshop the students are total engaged in the stories. Our goal as a district is to writing success stories one child at a time.

My Project

Writer's Workshop is an essential part of balanced literacy that is sometimes forgotten. As we know reading and writing are connected, and I would love for my students to have everything they need to proficient writers and develop a love for it.

These special materials will allow the students to go through the entire writing process.

The students will have more confidence when they are sharing the papers with peers as well as becoming effective communicators. The tools provided will definitely support our younger writers in the classroom and beyond.
