My Project

Allowing students to demonstrate agency and authority in the classroom aids in students in taking charge of their learning and making the choices that work best for them. Giving them classroom jobs and other tools that allow them to assert their own power in the classroom helps students invoke their voice and practice responsibility. Currently, my role is less facilitator and more director. Some students are disengaged and even incorporative. Making sure students have opportunities to take responsibility, make arguments, and work collaboratively increases their willingness to engage academically. It also results in positive identities, problem-solvers, sense-makers, and creators of ideas. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when are offered choices based on the ideas generated by them. They are more engaged and get more work completed than otherwise.

The products that I have selected will help my students by creating structured systems that they can assert agency, authority, and identity.

The Champs book will help me in creating specific expectations for a given activity. The self-assessment table signs, pencil rental sets, zinger bell, and classroom jobs signage will create structures that allow students to assume responsibility for seamless learning activities. The LCD boards will help students work independently as well as cooperatively so that they can apply their understanding in multiple ways.

My goal is to implement instructional techniques that will facilitate equitable and active student participation. The fulfillment of this project will get me closer to that goal.
