"If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow." - John Dewey
As the Literacy Director I want to provide my students with meaningful and motivating opportunities to foster a love of reading and writing.
I want all of the students at our school to love learning. Help me meet my goal!
In Kindergarten through 5th grade we teach 500 diverse students. Our students live all over the state of Utah. They choose to attend our virtual school for many reasons including homelessness, chronic illness, academic struggles, anxiety, experiences with bullying, some are even training for the Olympics. They are eager to learn and discover the world around them. Their parents are doing everything they can to set their students up for success.
Sarah Aronson, author of Just Like Rube Goldberg, will be visiting our school at the end of December. She will spend an hour with K-2 students and an hour with 3-5 students. This will impact 500 students!
During her visit she will read them her book, discuss the writing process, and have a question and answer session.
This will kick off a month long reading challenge for our students.
This is an important opportunity because many of our students struggle with reading and writing. Providing our students with positive experiences to foster a love of reading and writing is essential to their success.
