My students need children's literature, including the Elephant and Piggie Series, books by David Shannon, and plus puppets and games for our monthly author studies.
Encourage young children to find joy in reading with fun books!
By studying a specific "author of the month", my students become interested and active readers.
We study author styles and techniques, as well as themes and illustrations. At the end of every month, we write a book review about our favorite book from the month's author.
Our school is a small, public charter school in Florida that focuses on the performing arts. My students are imaginative and creative first graders! They are lucky to attend a school that allows them to shine in academics as well as art, drama, dance, and music.
My Project
The resources I am requesting are all picture books or games that relate our "authors-of-the-month". The authors I choose all write fun children's books. I have found that students develop a love of reading with these bright, funny, and imaginative books! Many of the books also teach important moral lessons. We will read these books together and use them to write book reviews.
Using these books will teach my students about reading and writing, as well as social lessons from the stories.
This project is important to the development of my classroom materials. As a young teacher I am always looking to expand my book collections, especially in the author of the month categories. Thank you!
