In all my classes, I have great students with different cultural backgrounds and who speak different languages including English, Spanish, French, and Vietnamese. They are very special because their motivation towards learning languages is very high.
My students walk into my classroom every day full of energy and eager to learn and practice the target language despite the limited resources they have and the personal difficulties they face in their daily lives.
In addition, some of them need to be provided with different kinds of accommodations.
My Project
Students are going to interview native Spanish speakers (students and staff) on campus and will record the interview to later edit and share the videos in the school platform online so that their classmates, other Spanish classes, future Spanish learners, and the entire Spanish learning community of our school district in South Carolina can benefit from these videos.
Students will develop full confidence in understanding the language by means of creating these authentic videos.
To do this, they will specifically work collaboratively and use the camera, the tripod, and the microphone to carry out interviews in Spanish with Hispanic guests in a quiet location of the school (media center, senior yard, etc.). They will then use software like Windows Movie Maker or Wondershare Filmora to edit the videos and then share them with the entire district so that other Spanish learners and teachers can access them and use them in their classes.
In addition, it is important to describe that we do not have any authentic listening resources to practice Spanish, that is why students and teachers of the World Languages Department at R.H. High School are going to create authentic videos with Native speakers of the language in the community to allow themselves to improve their listening comprehension, given that this is one of the hardest skills to develop.
Finally, not only will the creation of these videos focus on responding to the South Carolina Standards for World Languages, but they will also help learners understand cultural aspects of the different Hispanic countries.
