This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first grade students are very eager learners. They get excited about each new concept that is presented in our class. They are working hard to build a strong foundation of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

Most of my students are from lower-income families whose first language is not English.

Having access to Bilingual books, which authentically represent their Hispanic culture will enable my students' parents to read to them. This will help the students to make strong connections to the literature.

My Project

The Authentic Spanish Language Books will enable my students' parents to read to them in their native language. It is important for my Bilingual students to be able to read texts in Spanish because building their vocabulary in Spanish will enable them to understand more of what they read. It will also aid in their transfer to understanding more in English.

These Authentic Spanish Texts are written by authors from the Hispanic culture.

They realistically represent my students' culture rather than just being translations of English books. Seeing their culture represented in texts is important for my students to develop pride in their heritage.
