Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"It's not about what teachers cover; It's about what students discover." My students are curious learners who engage in the issues in order to be informed citizens. They enjoy hands-on, inquiry based projects and challenges that allow them to become better problem solvers! However, many of my students do not have a wide access to technology at home and rely on my classroom.
I want my students to see themselves as uniquely skilled, empathetic life-long learners and be ready to BE the productive change needed.
My class is made up of 25 learners who try to live out these ideas. My class is a community of learners who love to read, love to create and are always questioning. Of the 25, three receive special services for reading and math, 14 are fourth graders and 11 are fifth graders. They all believe in the power of "yet" and know through hard work and effort they can learn anything.
My Project
Chromebooks are vital tools for the classroom. They provide many benefits in the classroom. First, websites, online games, e-books and educational videos will help my students learn at their own pace. Chromebooks also allow me to use different teaching methods for each student’s unique learning needs. Second, it gives students instant access to knowledge. This allows for rich discussions and increases critical thinking skills. Last, Chromebooks and the use of technology in general is proven to increase student engagement.
Despite the benefits of adopting technology in the classroom, the full menu of technology is still not universally available to all students.
Therefore, your donation to make this project a reality will help to create informed student citizens through purposeful current events. By encouraging collaboration and developing critical thinking skills, students are developing two major areas of 21st century work skills!
