Each morning I am greeted by twenty of the most enthusiastic and motivated students. It is my goal to produce students who question the world around them and who will see a problem as an opportunity to create a solution that will ultimately change the world.
I teach at an elementary school in a high-poverty urban setting.
All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students come to school daily looking to be challenged and knowing that our school is a safe place where learning is fun and engaging.
My Project
Students in my 3rd grade class will be able to use the virtual reality glasses and their own devices to experience worlds that would never be available to them otherwise. They can visit places from all over the world and be fully immersed in its culture through the Google Expeditions app. They can experience first-hand a trip to Peru taken by the founder of Tom's to donate shoes to children in the community and visit their school. They can can see the living conditions of those who have been forced to leave their country because of war and are now living in a refugee camp in Jordan waiting to be resettled all over the world.
These experiences will help our students gain a better understanding of the world they are inheriting in the future.
They will also give our teachers the opportunity to not just speak about a place but provide our students the opportunity to take a virtual field trip there and witness as first-hand as they can.
