This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are part of a zillion bright and shining stars in a glorious universe. They will be our future leaders and change makers. They are coming of age in the midst of a global pandemic and observing what positive change and inclusivity will look like in the years to come. They will be part of a multicultural wave that will spread across America with the express intention to help ALL people believe that they matter and have within themselves the ability to contribute to this world in mighty and wonderful ways.
My Project
Students will read Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson and engage in meaningful discussions from a historical perspective of a child coming of age during a time of change in the United States. As they engage in a class novel study, they will have the opportunity to hone their reading and writing skills while they evaluate the text independently and as a group.
My students will use history to gain perspective as we travel back in time and take a peek into the life of a child that would've been their peer.
History can provide valuable lessons and lay the groundwork for solutions for all generations.
