Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach an AMAZINGLY talented group of kindergarten students with a wide range of instructional, behavioral, and social-emotional needs, all of whom have Individualized Education Plans (IEP's). My students are taught in small groups and individually in a self-contained special education classroom. Students are provided instruction and remediation in specific areas of need, which are indicated in their IEP's. These areas of need center around foundational skills that they are lacking in order to be successful with grade level concepts. When individual students show readiness, they enter general education for portions of the day. As they show more success, their time in general education increases.
My students love to dance, sing, draw, and play but most importantly, they LOVE TO LEARN!
Typically there are more boys than girls in my class, all of whom have a lot of personality! We have a lot of fun every day while working hard to close the academic gap students experience working towards grade level expectations! Students are taught at an accomplished Title 1 school north of Atlanta, Georgia.
My Project
This project will make a huge difference in the way my students learn because Learning alive is an interactive program that brings pictures to life through technology. Students attention will be drawn into these moments of augmented reality and foundational skills will be mastered. For a lot of the students I teach, having prior knowledge, or background knowledge, is not something they come with. Providing students with these real life examples and memories to draw from will enhance their lives in more ways than just learning letters, letter sounds, sight words, or math skills. These students will also be able to make connections to other areas of their life as they grow.
