Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a veteran mathematics teacher who is teaching geometry, algebra 2, and AP Statistics. I am committed to promoting cooperative learning and the use of technology in my classroom because I believe my students will gain immensely from this implementation.
In particular, the students in my math classroom are caring collaborators and have a very inquisitive mind.
I would like to continue providing opportunities to develop these skills, and for that, I need additional resources.
Nevertheless, our students live in an economically disadvantaged Latino community. Most of them qualify for the federal free meal program.
My Project
I have been exploring augmented reality of geometric objects using a computer at work. It will be quite an experience for my students to create three-dimensional objects using the same resources in a handheld once we have studied the topics of surface area and volume in class.
The iPad will provide an excellent opportunity for engagement since it will allow students to move around the classroom matching their creations to objects in class.
I have seen this done by the students in another classroom, and I just have to do it in my classes. I believe that my students will go above and beyond my expectations given the opportunity.
