I teach an amazing group of culturally and racially diverse 11 and 12-year-olds. My classroom is in a 6-12th-grade Title I building in St. Paul, MN. My students are divided into 3 sections; one co-taught with an English Learner Teacher, one general education and one support class.
I feel honored to grow with and encourage my students on a daily basis.
I love discovering their unique perspectives and igniting a passion for reading in all my 6th graders.
My Project
6th graders are not always motivated to read. This is where audiobooks come in. Audiobooks increase engagement in my classroom by involving all students with varying interests and abilities.
Last year, I worked really hard finding many resources for students to access audiobooks on their 1-1 iPads.
The problem is that not all of my students have personal headphones. Because there may be as many as 35 students in my classroom, students can't listen to audiobooks or other audio learning tools without distracting others if they don't have headphones. Providing my students with these resources will increase their engagement, listening skills, and overall reading comprehension.
