Have you ever tried to do a project with outdated or limited technology at your fingertips? For my students this will level the playing field and give them the technology they need to work with. It will give them the ability to complete the projects they are working on in one device.
The picture of my students is one of great diversity.
We are a 1500 student high school in California that is more than 90 percent non white. We are 35 percent Hispanic, 28 percent African American and 22 percent Asian. We are officially 100 percent free and reduced lunch. We are also one of the schools ranked 10 out of 10 for our state testing results. We were honored for the work we did last year with a Civics award for the regional summer camp we put on for our feeder elementary school. We are a school of leaders, a school of the world, and a school others can follow in to the modern age. We are a school that beats the odds every day and will continue to beat the odds every day.
My Project
Our school has been achieving great things over the last 10 year (10 years of improvement). At the same time, we cannot get out from under the reputation our school had for being rough. We send kids to Brown, Stanford, Berkley, and Vassar. But no one gets to hear about this achievement. The other untold story is the students who improve each year. We have students who change their future by moving their grades up by .5 or more each semester. This device will help them do this by giving them the tools to document their work and the achievement of their classmates.
As a school with little resources, this device will help the students have the ability to capture, create, share and document the successes, achievement, improvement, and talents of the students at our school.
This device will also all my students the access to the technology they have not had in the past by putting it directly in their hands. And this device will give them the technology they have not had access to in the past.
