Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students do so well during instruction but struggle in testing situations. I want my students to experience success on any test. I would like to give them life long skills that will prepare them for their future educational journey.
My students struggle with anxiety and a handful of them have severe ADHD.
The become anxious and worried. They get a test and suddenly everything they have worked so hard on goes out the window. You can see the stress on their faces as you walk around the room during an assessment. Their eyes wonder, trying to recall the information they know they've learned but can't remember. So many of my students have not passed a standardized test since third grade and are now in fifth grade. I believe this has to do with anxiety. Our teachers works so hard with these students. Their grades are great on their report card but their STAAR scores do not reflect. Our school does everything it can to provide extra support for my struggling students but we need help training their worst enemy, test anxiety.
My Project
My students that have ADHD struggle daily with self awareness, self control and anxiety. The pencil toppers and the chair/desk bands will be used to help them release energy in the classroom. The partitions will help all of my students during testing, especially those with ADHD. The partitions help the students with blocking out distractions. The children's' books will be used for read aloud activities and all students would benefit from these books, especially my ADHD kids that struggle with self awareness and self control. The other anxiety books are for me to study and share with my students' parents. I would love to share strategies that ensure their child's success. Success now and for years to come.
This is the type of project that will help me as a teacher learn how to help kids with anxiety for many years.
Anxiety is something I often experienced as a student but never discussed with teachers or adults. You would be supplying me with the knowledge to make my current students and future students successful during tests. For in their future many more tests will come. This project will help me to help parents. Your donations will resonate in my classroom for years and years.
