Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

We have a little over 755 students in our building. Most of them come from low-income families. Some of the students are displaced: doubling up with family members; moving from shelter to shelter; staying in different motels; sleeping in cars or do not have an idea primary nighttime residence. We do have many students who are embarrassed to come to school due to the lack of hygiene items. They are already lacking the material. The majority of the students have gym every other day. They will avoid the class or school the day of because they do not want to be teased because of it. This project will provide a hygiene bag for each student so it's not inclusive for a select group. But if students are in need of extra they will be able to replenish their bags. I believe being able to provide students with these items, will decrease our chronic absenteeism rate we are currently dealing with.
