Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every morning, my kindergartners enter our classroom full of life, energy, and wonder for the day ahead. We begin our day with circle time, fun morning songs, and a chance to share a bit about their lives to prepare them for a day full of learning.
Circle time is a way for my students to mentally prepare for the day and have a break from their harsh realities.
I work in a Title I school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. Over 90% of the students come from low-income households and a neighborhood filled with crime and homelessness.
Our school has one of the highest percentages of foster and homeless youth in the district. But, my students' circumstances do not define them. They are wonderful children who deserve the best and as many opportunities to succeed. With your help and DonorsChoose, I will be able to give my students these opportunities to ensure they have a better future.
My Project
My students are facing hunger issues due to situations beyond their control. They may come to school and not be able to focus, and as a result, productivity in their learning is adversely affected.
The items requested will go towards feeding my students who often arrive to school late, and miss breakfast.
When students aren't worried about their next meal, they will increase productivity and focus. Rather than focusing on hunger, they are able to pay attention in class, with the hope of increased academics.
Hunger can be very distracting to learning and lead to incomplete tasks and the misunderstanding of information. It pains me to think they are trying their hardest to focus through hunger pains. This project will bring kids snacks and healthy treats to give them the energy to be active participants in their learning. Kids in my class come to school with so many other distractions present in their lives these donations would remove hunger and allow them to push through the day and focus on learning, not hunger.
