My students are in a school that is 50% Title I and live in the rural foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Our school encourages our students to be the best they can be. In order for them to do this in science, we need some new equipment in preparation for our new standards next year.
With the correct equipment, all our 7th grade students will better be able to explore atoms up to organisms.
I want our students to feel confident and be proud of their accomplishments in and out of the classroom. They need to be able to problem solve, work as teams, and believe in their own abilities. Success breeds success in the classroom and in life.
My students will use the requested materials to thoroughly explore atoms to organisms. They will be able to make 3D models of plant and animal cells with the arts and crafts materials.
The magnifying glasses will allow students to make observations of plants and animals and then compare that to what is observed with our microscopes and prepared slides.
We will also calculate the differences in magnification between the two tools.
The atom kits will allow students to make different models of simple and compound molecules. We will also look at the chemical equations and set up the different compounds so they will more easily recognize the total number of atoms.
