This year's eighth-graders are full of energy and love doing hands-on activities. In addition to our regular education students, we have many students who need accommodations. This includes Special Education students, English Language Learners, inclusion students, and students on IEP's or 504 plans. Many of these students benefit from kinesthetic activities that make scientific phenomena more real to them.
Our goal is to give students the best learning opportunities we can through a variety of instructional methods.
We plan many labs but also do other activities to help our students succeed. With the implementation of standards-based learning in our district and grade-level proficiency scales, we have been working hard to make this year full of new experiences that lead to increased student success.
My Project
The phenomenon of water and other liquids being attracted to static electricity while others are not, can only be explained on an atomic level. Using different liquids placed in the burettes, students will be able to investigate this phenomenon. After creating some static by rubbing a balloon on their head, they will open the burette and hold the balloon next to the liquid coming out. Some liquids will pull toward the static electricity and others will not.
As students learn about atoms and molecules, they will come to understand what could be affecting this phenomenon.
