Life on a Volcano! I have a class of 23 energetic, curious first and second graders at a public charter school on the Big Island of Hawaii. Charter schools are free public schools, but receive about half the funding as the state public schools. Therefore, we look for many other options to help fund the much needed supplies and technology for our classrooms. Many of our students have never been off the island, so it is important to provide a wide range of learning opportunities.
"Tell me and I forget, Teach me and I remember, Involve me and I learn," Benjamin Franklin.
Our students today are tech savvy. Why not use tools and technology that excite and spark their desire to learn using the ipad mini.
The iPad mini's will provide a valuable technology tool for our students to access and record using a reading intervention app, as well as, being able to access a variety of other learning apps.
Students will work in small groups using the iPad mini to access their own personal account of a reading intervention program and a math program that will track their progress. Even with a subject that may be difficult for the learner, the iPad mini makes reading and math fun!
