My students live in a city where crime rates are high, and there is a 98% poverty rate. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with the same creative and meaningful learning experiences that other students are able to have.
Although I may not be able to control their home lives, I can certainly control their experiences during the school day.
By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My students, although only three and four years-old, are hard workers, and they deserve to come to school and feel safe and loved, and I'm happy to be the one who is able to give them that.
My students have been at home now for a full month without the materials they need to continue their love of learning through play. I have had several parents tell me that they are having a hard time motivating their child and do not have the materials they need at home. It is my hope that I can create at home survival packets for my students with some similar things such as crayon, paint, glue sticks, wiki sticks, paper and markers so they are able to continue their love for playing and learning.
