My Students

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn". Benjamin Franklin

As teacher in a low- income/high poverty school district, I am faced with several challenges in and out of the classroom.

Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students are creative, clever and very spontaneous.

They like to move, they love to do hands on projects and experiments at their desk and on the floor. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire all students.

My Project

My students need Einstein Cartoon Curtain, Solar System Rug, Answer Buzzers and Pencil Shaped School Pass Set. The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students At Home in School needs. In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our classroom door! The large carpet will be placed in the front of the classroom and used as a gathering place during mini-lessons, grouping, and share time. The curtains and other organizational baskets, will be placed on the shelves in the back of our classroom and will help the Students feel safe, comfortable and relaxed enough to concentrate while thinking and working. This will help run my centers in science smoothly from day to day. The buzzers will be used so that my students know which team is answering the quickest and which group to give a points. The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of and competency in authentic, meaningful scientific argument. By implementing the scientific arguments, my students will begin to see themselves as true scientist. We will use these materials to aide us in the process of becoming life-long writers in science. As the teacher, I have done research and found that students need to learn how to write constructive arguments in order to describe, explain or persuade. Thanks!
