This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a Title l and high poverty school where 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many go from school to daycare and get home in time to go to bed. Then, get up the next morning and do it all over again. Their caregivers have to work long hours and are not able to give a lot educational support to their children.
Despite the many challenges my third graders face daily, we strive to provide quality education and exposure through extracurricular activities to help them become well-rounded individuals that are productive young citizens of society.
I partner teach a general education classroom where I teach math, science and social studies to two classes. When teaching these students several components are taken into consideration such as learning style, and technology and fluency activities are effective tools to cater to their personal needs.
My Project
During this time of long-distance learning, our students need chapter books at home for them to use for assignments and for pure enjoyment during this time of being shut inside. Books are our windows to the world and can take my students on adventures without them ever leaving their homes.
My students' favorite assignments are ones that are project-based and lets them use their creativity and imagination; these books will provide the basis for them to be able to do this!
We will read together through Zoom classroom meetings, read independently at home, write about what we read and how it relates to our own lives, and then make projects that will show the individuality of each of the students. At the end, we will have a Zoom class meeting where everyone will present their projects! It will not only be a wonderful learning experience but so much fun for everyone - students, parents and me!
