My students are from a large, urban community that welcomes families from all over the globe. They bring a special blend of linguistic diversity, background knowledge, prior experiences and culture to our school. I have five Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) students in my classroom. Free breakfast and free lunch are available to every child in our building each day, which are now remotely served at drop off points by our bus drivers.
My students are creative, clever and very enthusiastic about learning.
The majority of my students read below grade level. They would benefit from a variety of classroom resources to help increase their success in reading during our newly established distance remote learning platform. As of March 17th, my students will be learning at home. School will be closed due to the COVID-19 virus for the rest of the school year. This presents a challenge, as most of my students do not have access to good reading resources in their homes. The remote learning circumstances occuring right now is that my students were given school laptops out of my classroom. They would benfit utilizing an online reading enrichment program initialized for each reading level the students are at.
Nearpod is a highly engaging lesson delivery tool that is part presentation tool, part formative assessment tool, and part interactive content delivery tool. Why Should I Use It? With Nearpod; student engagement will improve, and my ability to gather realtime data to inform and guide instruction will increase. Those two outcomes are priceless in and of themselves, but what is perhaps most exciting is Nearpod's ability to democratize my classroom. I will now be able to hear from all of my students equally, and in a safe space where they will quickly learn that what they share is safe-for the teacher's eyes only-and that they can open up and be heard.
I will start out with "WE EAT PLANT PARTS".
The presentation gives a great deal of information, it checks for understanding, it provides an opportunity for my students to organize and synthesize information, and it gives them a chance to be creative with the drawing tool.
