My Students

Our school is a wonderful school in Eagle River, Alaska. We are a small, very family-oriented community just outside of Anchorage. Our school is tucked away in the glorious Eagle River Valley. A place that inspires people to get outdoors and celebrate the beauty in Alaska.

The students in my 5th-grade classroom are eager, sometimes passionate students who thrive on projects and hands-on partner learning.

Because everyone comes to the classroom with different backgrounds and experiences, it is so important to me that the students have the opportunity to share their ideas, knowledge, and experiences with each other. We always say, "everyone has a voice and every voice deserves to be heard.”

Our school is aspiring to become a STEAM school and we are continually collaborating to find ways to bring authentic learning alive in a way that supports a hands-on minds-on model that promotes the essence of becoming a global learner.

My Project

Our spring semester science unit is all about astronomy. Having the opportunity to join literature groups and share books that support our topic of learning is such an awesome opportunity.

Aligning the curriculum allows students to dive deep into their units of study and make connections throughout their day.

The magic of literature groups is having the opportunity to share connections, ideas, and ahas with each other. So much of our learning is non-fiction based, but reading fiction allows us to dive deep into context and rich stories while again connecting those stories to the learning happening throughout their day.
