Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Starting this year, I am honored to be the science teacher for 165 gifted and talented students in 6th and 7th grade, in a newly transformed Dallas ISD Academy for Talented and Gifted students.

My students are amazing, very smart, creative, funny, and curious.

They have great ideas and I learn a lot from them, myself. They all work really hard to build a good future for themselves and their families.

I want to give my students the opportunity to build a strong love for science. I want them to feel comfortable and important while in my class, I want them to know that their work matters. I want them to learn through exploring and hands-on activities. I am passionate about making a difference in my students' lives as they are my future, our future, and they deserve the best.

Our school is located in a building constructed in 1951 and designed to host only elementary grades students. Any help with supplies will make a big difference in my science class!

Thank you in advance!

My Project

I offer my students the experience of science learning through hands-on activity, almost on a daily basis.

What my students experience through seeing, touching, making and creating, they will always remember; offering these learning experiences requires a continuous supply of materials and science equipment for my classes.

My 6th grade students will make learn to make their own microscope slides and observe cell organelles inside the cells they collected and stained. We need to always have available clean microscope slides, covers and solution to stain the cells.

My 7th grade students learn about space, the moon phases and the life cycle of a star, I would love to give them the opportunity to observe celestial bodies with their own eyes, through a telescope. A sound amplifier to protect my teacher voice, but also reach all levels of hearing around the room and and a remote control to change the presentation slides from anywhere in the classroom, will give me the flexibility I need to make myself available to all my students' needs, while still keeping the flow of the lessons.
