Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are faced with many challenges inside and outside the classroom.
Many of my students come from high poverty and diverse backgrounds (The school is 70% free/reduced lunch).
Academically they are currently below grade level in reading and we are working to close the achievement gap. My primary goal is to give them exposure to a variety of high interest, relevant reading material that will engage them. Our focus is on growth and learning in order to raise students to their highest potential.
My Project
I coach basketball at a great school and work with student-athletes who want to succeed both on the court and in the classroom. As a coach, I am consistently looking for ways to improve our players' experience and help them reach their academic and athletic goals.
With athletic budgets shrinking we are always looking to partner with people for a successful season.
Our current air compressor is on its last legs and we would like to replace it so we can continue to provide adequate equipment. We would like to add a few new basketballs this season to practice and play with. As a team, we are also trying to increase the agility of our players and having agility balls and cones will address this. We hope to represent our school and community with pride this season.
