The children in my class have ages that range from 3-5 years old and they enjoy playing in the kitchen area. They like cooking food, inviting their friends, inviting teachers to come and eat dinner with them, and they dress up in different types of occupation uniforms such as doctors, nurses, police officers, and firefighters. They mimic the experiences they have in their homes by pretending to place leftovers in their fridge and selling items at the stores as well. They have wild imaginations that help them to explore their educational world which in turn helps them to be able to gain the knowledge to perform well outside of the classroom.
My Project
These materials will begin an educational journey that will cause the students to understand life skills that will benefit them as they grow up into successful members of society. For starters, the microwave will allow the students to understand the concept of preservation of food. By teaching this skill with hands-on learning, the children can have a clearer insight into the processes that go into keeping food sanitary and good for consumption.
The children will be able to grasp the ideology of keeping themselves and others safe when it comes to meal preparation.
Lastly, the toaster will teach the students how to properly prepare food while incorporating their own unique style.
The materials that have been chosen not only prepare the students to understand necessary life skills, they allow them to also explore their potential in another setting outside of the classroom. They are able to put their own spin on the different meals they will prepare, and they can also engage with other students which helps them improve on socioemotional skills.
