My students are eager to learn and achieve; sometimes what may seem easy to so many can be a true test of perseverance for others.
My students span all ages and grades in elementary school.
I am currently in a position to reach a variety of students with a variety of needs across the grades. Being part of a response to intervention team within my building allows me and my colleagues to support students who not only receive mandated services as per their Individualized Education Plans, but also students who may be struggling to show what they know and could be considered "at-risk". Being "at-risk" means that without support and intervention these students may need an evaluation later on for mandated Special Education Services.
My Project
As a Special Educator I am always looking for ways to tailor my instruction to the individualized needs of my students. Through specific assessment tools I am able to pinpoint areas of struggle and strength so as to maximize my ability to reach the students I support.
Knowing what a student needs to work on, ensures that I can provide the personalized support they need.
The use of assessment tools allows me the luxury of targeting student needs in the most effective way. The Informal Reading Inventory is used to assess or test students' reading progress. The Sound Sensible kit is the kindergarten component to the SPIRE program that I currently implement in the building with a targeted group of students who present struggles in literacy.
